Perhaps the best snack to share with other kids in class was Goldfish Crackers! They were small, cheesy crackers shaped like fish, with fun little smiling faces, and they’re still available, with some new flavor options added, too. Look out for them the next time you shop for groceries.
Bagel Bites
Bagel Bites were the perfect snack when you came home from school. In case you need a reminder, they were delicious bite-sized bagels covered in pizza-style toppings that could be heated up in no time. That gooey cheese was oh-so good!
Kraft Mac & Cheese
There’s something special about Kraft Mac & Cheese that evokes a particular kind of nostalgia. Sure, it might have been something pulled out when our parents didn’t have enough time to cook, but for us, it was the ultimate in fine dining!
Froot Loops
Was any breakfast table really complete without a box of Froot Loops sitting front and center? This cereal brought a lot of color to our bowls, making mornings before school a little bit more interesting with its bright appearance and sweet taste.
PB&J Sandwiches
It doesn’t matter how old you are—peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are always a winning combination. The key to a good PB&J is in the jelly, and you can’t go wrong with strawberry. However, according to Yahoo! News, grape is the go-to choice for many.
Pop-Tarts
There was something so satisfying about taking a box of pop-tarts out of the pantry, setting them in the toaster, and ending up with a warm, tasty treat in a matter of minutes. Strawberry, Blueberry, Brown Sugar Cinnamon, and Apple-Currant were the original flavors, but there are loads of new options now!
Funyuns Onion Rings
Onion-flavored chips are a combination that seems like it shouldn’t work… but somehow it does – and boy, does it work well! If you’ve ever tried Funyuns Onion Rings, you’ll know just how tasty these treats are and their incredibly tangy taste.
Eggo Waffles
Eggo Waffles have had a resurgence in recent years, thanks to being referenced (several times) in the popular series Stranger Things. This has seen many of us clamoring to get our hands on them again, so it’s just as well that they’re still around!
Fruit by the Foot
When you think of fun foods, it doesn’t get much better than Fruit by the Foot, a deliciously sweet fruit-flavored snack rolled up into a spiral. Different kids would approach them in different ways, from the traditional ‘unravel and eat’ to the less conventional ‘roll into a ball.’
Easy Cheese
Easy Cheese was designed to be squeezed out of a nozzle, and there was something so incredible about this to us as kids! Not only did it lead to all sorts of fun mishaps, but it was also so satisfying to squeeze out onto crackers.
Dunkaroos
Somehow, this incredible snack seemed to make it more socially acceptable to simply eat frosting, and as kids, that was definitely a good thing! The packet contained kangaroo-shaped cookies in one compartment, with a separate section for frosting. You’d dip the cookies into the frosting to create a delicious treat.
Hostess Cupcakes
Hostess Cupcakes were fluffy chocolate sponge cupcakes with dark brown frosting and an instantly recognizable piped white pattern, and were lunchbox staples when we were kids. The BBC claims that the Hostess brand still exists, though it was bought by Smucker in 2023. They should still taste the same, though.
Cheez-It Crackers
These baked crackers were amazing by themselves, but they also provided the perfect vessel for a range of delicious toppings, like cream cheese or even Nutella, if you were feeling adventurous! Cheez-It Crackers had a crunchy texture and cheesy taste and were an all-round awesome snack.
Twinkies
Last but not least, what would this list be without the inclusion of Twinkies?! These iconic snacks consist of a delicious light sponge cake with a sweet, creamy filling. They’re a bite-sized treat, which made them a great option for school backpacks—until they got squashed at the bottom!
