Laura Malone, a director at Mini Cat Town in San Jose, California, recently welcomed this unique feline family. The mother cat, along with her four kittens, was rescued from a city shelter, their origins largely unknown. Laura observed, “She seems to have been around humans but also has the traits of an outdoor cat.”
Mini Cat Town was quick to embrace these felines, particularly struck by the kittens’ rare chocolate and cinnamon brown coats.
Unique Genetics at Play
The kittens, all female, display a mix of solid and patterned coats, with charming white socks and facial markings. Their pinkish-brown noses and paws suggest a genetic rarity. “This coloration is quite unusual, especially for shelter cats,” Laura explained. It’s a result of a mutation in the black color gene, making them a rare find.
