This past summer, a group of young kittens found their way to the Animal Welfare League of Arlington in Arlington, Virginia, in search of a brighter future. Devoted volunteers of the Kitten College program dedicated themselves to their round-the-clock care.

Among them, two smaller kittens from the litter required extra nurturing. Lauren Strycula, a committed foster volunteer at the shelter, decided to take these two under her wing.

In their early days at Lauren’s home, these tiny, delicate creatures sought solace in each other’s company. Jace, the smaller male kitten, struggled initially, especially with learning to feed from a bottle. His sister Jackie stayed close, offering her support.

Under Lauren’s attentive care, including medication and constant attention, the pair gradually improved, gaining weight and seeking out affection. Jace’s playful ear wiggles while eating were a heartwarming reward for the effort and sleepless nights endured.

Jackie matched her brother’s zest, growing increasingly eager to eat and play. Their mutual support played a vital role in their progress.

With time, the kittens flourished, venturing out of their safe space, mastering the litter box, and learning to eat from a dish side by side.

Although they looked remarkably alike, Jace and Jackie each developed their unique personalities. Jace, the playful troublemaker, and Jackie, the calm and collected one, together formed a well-balanced pair.

When the time came for them to find a permanent home, Lauren hoped for a family that would adopt both. Alexandra and Bryan, who were searching for new family members, fell in love with the kittens after seeing them on Instagram via the Animal Welfare League of Arlington. They were the perfect fit for Jace and Jackie.

Lauren reminisced about the kittens’ infectious enthusiasm, trustfulness, amusing personalities, and their deep bond. She was happy to see them start their forever after.

Settling into their new home, the kittens, now called Whiskey and Pippa, explored their surroundings as a duo. Alexandra described how they adapted to their new environment with energy and enthusiasm, eventually finding comfort in their new family’s presence.

Whiskey and Pippa established a routine in their new home, inseparable in all their activities, whether playing, eating, or using the litter box. They cherished their toys and playtime, displaying an endearing zest for life.

The pair loved lounging in their window hammock, observing outdoor life, and were equally content snuggling in their owners’ laps, purring contentedly.

Whiskey and Pippa were not shy about demanding attention, often seeking out a lap to curl up in. Their strong bond was evident, and Alexandra hoped their story would encourage others to consider adopting pets in pairs.
