Fancy foods are losing their appeal and aren’t worth their high prices anymore. There are much cheaper options that still have a great taste. Here’s a list of 20 pricey items you might think twice about buying on your next grocery run.

Truffle Oil

Hospitality Insights explains that truffles are so expensive due to being seasonal and difficult to grow. Many store-bought versions of truffle oil are artificially flavored, making them taste fake and disappointing. They’re pricey and don’t deliver the real truffle experience. Most truffle oils just aren’t worth the money or hype.

Also known as the world’s priciest spice, saffron is losing its charm because cheaper options like turmeric and annatto are available. These alternatives can give dishes the same bright colors and flavors without the high price. Plus, worries about fake saffron make it a risky purchase.

Kobe Beef

This food is famous for being tender and well-marbled. While Kobe beef is the most expensive beef in the world, that doesn’t always mean a better meal. You can get a similar taste and texture with Wagyu or Angus beef for much less money, so splurging on Kobe beef isn’t really worth it.
