Whilst there are many things in the Bible that might seem outdated and out of place in the modern day world, there are also lessons that can be learned from it that have never been more relevant. In this article we are going to take a look at 18 life lessons from the Bible that still make sense today.

First and foremost, the Bible teaches us to show respect to every individual, regardless of who they are or where they come from. It means treating those around you with decency and honoring them regardless of how others have treated you.

This basic principle from the Bible emphasizes the importance of showing love and kindness to everyone, regardless of any differences that you may have. This encourages empathy in people and harmony within communities, as well as said by the Church of Jesus Christ.

Forgiveness isn’t justifying someone else’s wrongdoing. It is letting go of the resentment and anger that it causes you to feel. By being able to forgive, you are able to let go of the things that you allow to hurt you and create space for healing.

Humility is the act of acknowledging our strengths and weaknesses without letting it go to our heads. Being humble allows us to learn from others, accept feedback from others without becoming defensive, and form genuine connections based on mutual respect.

In the modern day world, we are used to getting what we want on demand when we want it. Patience continues to be a virtue that allows us to endure setbacks with grace and work hard towards the things that we want in life.

Being grateful in the modern day world is something that is becoming less and less common. To be grateful means that we are able to focus on what we have, which allows us to create a sense of contentment, leading to a more positive and happier outlook on life.

The Bible gives us a useful lesson about perseverance and its importance to our lives. Perseverance is the constant pursuit of goals in the face of setbacks and delays. It is not for the fainthearted, requiring resilience and determination even when things get difficult.

Honesty is the base of any relationship, romantic or otherwise. It allows for authentic communication and genuine connection between people. Honesty only asks for truthful speaking, acting with integrity, and taking responsibility for our words and actions.

Compassion is the ability to empathize with others and being able to put yourself in their shoes to feel what they feel. It isn’t an easy task, and you must be ready and willing to help those in need and alleviate the pain and suffering of others.

The Bible states the importance of wisdom and knowledge when it comes to making decisions and navigating life, as described in Beyond Salvation. In order to be wise, you must be able to understand things beyond the surface level.

When it comes to generosity, it isn’t merely about giving what we have materially away; it can also refer to being generous with our emotions or spiritual energy, all without expecting anything in return.

Being courageous means being able to confront your fear and uncertainty with bravery and resolve. It is not just being brave in the face of danger but also being able to step outside your comfort zone and take a risk.

The Bible urges us to resist temptation by using self-control. Self-control is the ability to control our thoughts, emotions, and actions. This allows us to make better-advised choices in our lives.

The Bible Society tells us that, above all else, the Bible taught us to have faith. Faith is the confident assurance that you will get the things that you hope for. The ability to trust in things that cannot be seen extends far beyond that of faith in God, it can be applied to all aspects of a person’s life.

Self-reflection is the process of introspection and self-examination which allows us to check in with our thoughts, emotions and behaviors. It allows us to grow, gain a better understanding of ourselves and become more self-aware.

According to New Beginnings In Christ, caring for someone is the greatest thing you can do in life. To be in the act of service means to be selflessly giving ourselves to meet the needs of others, either through acts of kindness, volunteering or philanthropy.

To be content is to be happy and with peace with what you have, rather than constantly pining for more without ever feeling the sense of achievement. It allows us to live in the current moment and find joy in the simple things in life.

The Bible encourages community through the unity of people as a whole – regardless of their backgrounds and opinions. It encourages us to welcome differences and include people in everything we do in order to work towards common goals.
